Tips for Improving Daily Productivity at Your Nonprofit Organization

Streamline your time to improve your nonprofit.

Nonprofit professionals often find themselves juggling several tasks at once with barely enough time to get by. Being productive enough can easily feel like a daily struggle. But productivity and good time management aren’t just about getting as much done as you possibly can during waking hours. Smarter workflows and well-grounded priorities can help nonprofit organizations to avoid burning out. To help you save some time, we’ve compiled a few ways you can work more efficiently to carry out your mission.

Track Your Time

Try logging your daily activities for a couple of weeks to see how much time each activity takes up. Toggl is a great free time-tracking software that allows you to track your time on each task, email, website, and more. You may find that you need to adjust how much time you allow certain tasks to better streamline your day and not feel rushed or overwhelmed.

With such a large and varied workload, it can be hard to find the time to complete the tasks that only you can execute. Try to organize tasks into four categories: Important, Urgent, Not Important, and Not Urgent. While most tasks will probably fall into two boxes, pay attention to how you address the tasks that fall only into one category. Focus on the tasks that Important, and do them by level of urgency. You’d be surprised at how much time you spend on things that not important, but seem urgent in the moment.

Stay Connected to Your Cause

A lot goes into operating a nonprofit organization, and it’s easy to only focus on getting things done and taking care of day-to-day responsibilities. To boost your productivity, remember to connect with your values and the things you believe in. Know why you’re doing what you’re doing. Stay connected to the cause you care about you will find the motivation to stay productive.
