Six Special Events Mishaps to Avoid!

Special Events Mishaps to Avoid

Special events may be the bread and butter of your nonprofit organization. To make them as successful as possible, avoid common mistakes.

Nonprofit organizations utilize special events as a method to increase awareness and raise money for their mission. They are a powerful resource and extremely successful when strategically planning. Some nonprofits can spend a lot of time setting up an event only to ultimately fail at getting the desired results.

Use these tips to avoid common mishaps!

Plan it well. The plans should cover all aspects of the event from start to finish. What is the event? What is required to make it happen? Who is in charge? Where will it be held? When will it be? How will it be funded?

Set goals. Nonprofit goals can vary from financial support to raising awareness. Identify your main goal in the beginning and keep it mind when planning and creating. Determine what you need in regard to sponsorships and donations to reach your goal.

Know what you can do. Many organizers take on too much – to the detriment of their health and organization. Appoint an event planning committee with individuals or teams to handle certain aspects. Make sure you delegate tasks so that you can cover all bases!

Market to the right people. Create an ‘ideal attendee’ profile to know how to market to your audience. Who do you want at the event and whose attendance benefits your nonprofit the most? The two answers may differ, so be sure you know whom you will market the event toward.

Stick to your budget. Create and stick to your budget no matter what. Going over budget takes away from your event goals.

Don’t forget the passion. Ignite passion in others by showing them enthusiasm and passion for the cause of the event. Don’t forget why you’re doing it in the first place.
