A Few Foods With Healthy Fats

Foods with Healthy FatsStart Eating These Healthy Fats

It would seem like eating fat would make you fat, and since we all know the health risks obesity brings you may be thinking you should stay away from fats. In fact, though, our bodies actually need healthy fats. They can increase cardiovascular health and can even help you lose weight! Here are a few foods with healthy fats you should add to your diet.

  • Eggs: Eggs had a bad rap in the health world for a little while, but now health experts are starting to change their tune. Eggs are high protein, antioxidant rich, and contain DHA omega-3 fatty acid, which is great for your heart.
  • Avocado: Not only do avocados contain over 20 vitamins and minerals, they are also low in sugar, high in fiber, and high in monounsaturated fat. This healthy fat helps lower your bad cholesterol, so go ahead and whip up that guacamole.
  • Olive Oil: Swap olive oil out for butter and you get its health benefits, which include lower bad cholesterol levels, better blood sugar control, and decreased blood clotting. Note that olive oils are not ideal for cooking, though, as they have a low smoke point. Choose coconut or another healthy oil instead.
  • Nuts: A handful of nuts is pretty much the ideal healthy snack. Not only will they keep you full thanks to their fiber, they also contain vitamins, unsaturated fats, and omega-3 fatty acids. This can improve your arteries’ healthy lining and lower your risk for heart disease.
