Flu Season is Back! Protect Your Office

With the return of flu season, you and your organization’s employees may be at risk of contracting the flu.

The return of influenza (the flu) seems like a cheesy 80’s horror film and for many that contract the virus, it almost is. The flu can be contracted during any time of the year, but it’s most active time period is during the fall and winter, as the temperature drops. The flu can also affect anyone from any class, age, race, or sex–as long as your human, you can catch the flu, and it’s highly contagious. Your organization may become victim to a company-wide epidemic. Here are a few tips on how you can protect your office from the flu virus.

  1. Encourage the Flu Vaccine
Requiring the flu vaccine is not a good idea as there may a few in your organization that cannot take the vaccine due to health reasons like a poor immune system or age. But those that can get it should as they, in turn, act as a shield for those whose immune system may not be able to fend off the virus.
  2. Sick Days Are There for a Reason
If your employees are sick, they should use their sick days. By coming to work in an effort to save their sick days, they put their fellow coworkers at risk. This is selfish and should be discouraged.
  3. Handwashing
One of the best ways to fend off the virus is to keep your hands clean. Soap is the enemy of influenza. The virus can stick to surfaces like keyboards, mouses, and other people’s hands! A good handwash after coughing or sneezing is the best way to go about keeping yourself healthy.
